Alocasia Elephant Ear

(Alocasia Macrorrhiza) The Elephant Ear is a simply stunning, feature plant. They are large and dramatic, with a tropical appearance that is sure to attract attention. The heart shape leaf and texture is something to behold. They are a great plant for the patio, verandah or garden. They are also a good indoor plant for offices and apartments as they can grow large enough to act as a focal point.

How To Care

Start by setting your plant in a place that meets the bright light conditions. They need bright sunlight when grown indoors, but avoid direct harsh midday/afternoon sun.

They are not a low maintenance plant, but if you are willing to put in a little work, the results will be well worth it.

They do well in pots or in the ground, and can be used for many different applications. Watering once a week should be sufficient for the plant, provided there is enough humidity in the air. If temperatures are high and dry, you will need to water it more frequently.

In the winter months the plant goes dormant, thus scaling back on the water is essential. Watering should be done at a moderate level – every few days and best done when the sun is low in the morning or afternoon.

To prevent pests, wipe down leaves (top and bottom) with a damp cloth every month.
